New England Patriots
There has been big news for the New England Patriots this week. First, star LB Colvin was released early this week. I can understand why the Patriots made this move, as Colvin was being paid a lot of money but spent most of the season injured. Next, the Patriot’s secondary (safeties and cornerbacks) has taken a big hit.
The Pats released safety Wilson while veteran safety R Harrison might not be returning next season as he is considering retirement. Not only have the New England Patriots lost their two starting safeties, but also their two starting cornerbacks. Star CB Samuel is leaving after completing his one-year franchise deal (gets paid the average of the three highest paid players on the team, the contract is only for one year). Starting on the other side, CB Randall Gay has also been released.
This means the Patriots have 5 starting spots on defense to fill before the start of the 2008-2009 season. The team also faces great expectations, as the Pats managed to go 18-1 last season, only losing their final game. As Free Agency started friday, the Patriots have a major priority to shop defense players, unlike last off season, where they added key offensive players to Tom Brady’s arsenal.
Obama’s sweep
Barack Obama recently accomplished a desicive sweep against Senator Clinton. Obama, who was slightly trailing Clinton before the recent votes in the states of Nebraska, Washington, and Louisiana, pulled ahead of Clinton (in terms of delegates).
With three victories in a single night, a lot of pressure has been put on Clinton to regain her lead, as there are only a limited number of states that have yet to vote. The important ones to watch will be Texas and Ohio, which vote on the 4th of March, as they have the most delegates that could be the key to Obama’s or Clinton’s nomination as the Democratic cantitidate as president of the United States of America.
After closely watching the elections, It is definitely the Democrats that are in middle of a tight race for the nomination, which the Republicans seemed to have centered around John McCain, as it is nearly impossible for Huckabee to reach the necessary number of delegates before McCain.
The Elections
So how about the results of Super Tuesday?
Although the race for delegates seems to be a blow out on the Republican side with John McCain (613) more than half way to the required 1,200 to gain his party’s nomination, the Democrats are in a tight race.
According to sites online, Senator Clinton (NY) has a slight lead with 845, in comparison to Senator Obama’s 765. The next few weeks will be crucial in determining which of the two senators (Since J Edwards dropped out) will receive the Democratic nomination, as both are neck to neck.
Recent stats show that the majority of African Americans are supporting Obama, while Hispanic Americans have supported Senator Clinton. I’d like to hear everyone’s opinion on who they believe will win the Democratic nomination and why. I believe advertisements and debates will be a key part in determining which senator will rise above the other. There have been reports that Senator Obama has raised more than 8 million dollars for his campaign, so I personally believe Obama will end up gaining the upper hand.

Super Bowl
The big game is right around the corner. Today, Friday, February 1st, Tom Brady looked healthy during his practice. After inconsitently participating during the team’s practices throughout the two week period before the Super Bowl, Brady didnt seem to have any ankle problems, moving and throwing the ball well, and didnt have his ankle taped. Im sure that the New York Giants are hoping that Brady gets hurt again, but that would be a major excuse for a Giant victory. I personally hope every player. including those of the New York Giants, is able to play in this upcomming historic and head-to-head matchup.
I am predicting a New England Patriot blow-out of 41-17, as the Patriots have one final step to place themselves in the record books. I dont believe they worked so hard all year to get to this point and play inconsistenly. I believe the defense will make alot of hard hitting plays and emotions run high, so I wouldn’t be surprised if a fight broke out before, during, or after the game.
Please comment on my opinions.

New England
Hey whats up everybody, my name is Nikos and I’m a writer for the Wellesley High School Bradford. I’ve never had a blog before and I look forward to discussing a lot of different topics important to New England.
I’m the biggest Patriots fan, and I can’t wait to discuss the upcoming Super Bowl/rematch between the Patriots and the Giants. I’d like to hear and talk about everyone’s opinions about the Red Sox, Celtics, and Bruins.
Feel free to ask questions, criticize, offer new opinions, and start conversations about other topics. The looming primary elections are also an interest of mine.
